Northamptonshire teenager Billy Pettit has accepted a place at the renowned Ellesmere College, Shropshire – a centre of swimming excellence in the UK – to train as part of their Elite Swim Program.
The move – which will see Billy board at the college – comes hard on the heels of his recent success at The British Summer Championships in August, which saw Billy take home a haul of gold and bronze medals.
Billy, who is 16 from Moulton near Northampton, secured a gold in the 4x200m U16 relay, a bronze in the 4x100m U16 relay, and an individual bronze in the 200m 16 years age group.
A member of Northampton Swimming Club, Billy has been training with Paralympic Gold Medallist Ellie Robinson. He has now moved to the College and will start training with Ellesmere College Titans later this month.
He said: “I was planning on starting Sixth Form college here in Moulton and can’t believe that I have now been offered and accepted a place with Ellesmere College, where I will be combining my studies with the most advanced swimming training methods and mentoring available.
“I’m also so happy with my performance at the nationals this year. Getting my first national medals means so much to me. Now, as I have achieved the qualifying time for the Swim England National Winter Championships in the 400m freestyle, I anticipate this will be one of my main aims for me and my coach going forward. All of this makes what I’ve put into the sport over the past couple of years all worthwhile.”
Billy is currently seeking sponsorship. Businesses or individuals interested in sponsoring Billy should contact Sara Pettit on 07592 848432 or [email protected]
