Silverstone Museum introduces ‘Low Revs’ dedicated sensory-friendly sessions

Silverstone Museum is making motorsport more accessible for all with its dedicated sensory-friendly sessions, Low Revs, offering a calmer and more relaxed way for visitors to experience the home of British motorsport.

Designed for visitors with neurodiverse conditions and sensory sensitivities, Low Revs provides families, carers, support workers and groups with the opportunity to explore Silverstone Museum in a quieter, more comfortable environment.

During the dedicated Low Revs sessions held every Monday in November, the museum’s environment is thoughtfully adapted to reduce sensory overload and help visitors explore at their own pace with relaxed opening hours, reduced visitor numbers and understanding and supportive staff on hand. The sessions also oversee lower sound levels, minimised visual effects and increased lighting where possible.

Designed to offer a welcoming, calm experience while still allowing visitors to enjoy the full story of British motorsport, the sessions are suitable for visitors with autism and sensory sensitivities or processing differences. There is no requirement to provide proof of need, ensuring anyone who feels they would benefit from a quieter experience can attend the sessions.

Phil Lawrie, CEO at Silverstone Museum, said: “We want Silverstone Museum to be a place where everyone can experience the excitement and history of British motorsport in a way that works for them. Low Revs is about removing some of the barriers that a busy, stimulating experience can create while ensuring visitors can still enjoy everything the museum has to offer.”
