This October, Uno Buses launched a quest to find a name for its bee mascot, and after much deliberation from the expert panel of judges (Uno bus drivers), Bruno was victorious!
Michael Ellis MP, who visited Uno Buses last week to take a look at the new vehicles and meet drivers and employees, was asked to announce the winning name.
The bee features on all 8 Violet buses and the winners Isobel Cosford from Duston, and Melissa Symonds, a lecturer at the University of Northampton, both suggested Bruno.
They will be invited to officially name the bee later this month by placing Bruno’s name on each bus.
Jim Thorpe, Managing Director of Uno Buses, said: “We’ve had such a great response to the appeal, we’re delighted that Isobel and Melissa came up with such a brilliant name. We really enjoyed showing Michael Ellis MP the new buses and all the onboard features, and it was great that he was on hand to help reveal the name to Uno colleagues.”
“There were over 50 bee names suggested, but the judges simply loved Bruno. They thought it suited our bee perfectly . We would like to thank everybody who took part!.”
Michael Ellis MP said: “I am pleased that Uno Buses, along with the University of Northampton, have invested £1.5m in eight state-of-the-art environmentally friendly buses. The Violet buses operate on the 19 route and will run up to every 12 minutes serving both University campuses, Kingsthorpe, the town centre, the train station and Sixfields. I very much welcome the addition of these buses to our town.”
