Pub company is giving free drinks in ‘unhappy’ Northamptonshire

Wellingborough and South Northamptonshire were recently labelled two of Britain’s unhappiest places to live by the Office of National Statistics, but local pubs disagree.

One of the UK’s leading pub companies, Ei Publican Partnerships, is giving Northamptonshire residents free drinks as local watering holes respond to recent claims that it’s one of the UK’s unhappiest places to live.

The Office of National Statistics (ONS) placed Wellingborough and South Northamptonshire at number seven and ten in a list of the unhappiest places to live in its latest wellbeing survey. The pub company however, which owns thousands of pubs including a large number in Northamptonshire, doesn’t believe this to be the case.

Managing Director at Ei Publican Partnerships, Nick Light said: “Our publicans in the area don’t agree with the findings of the ONS report but just to make sure that Northamptonshire residents are as happy as they can be in January, we’re offering free drinks to give people another reason to enjoy themselves down at their local.”

Between 2nd and 20th January, you can get a free drink at a number of Northamptonshire pubs including; Queen’s Head (Wellingborough), Carpenter’s Arms (Irchester), Rose and Crown (Hartwell) and Royal Oak (Cogenhoe). Other participating pubs in Northamptonshire can be found using the pub finder at

Whether you fancy a pint, a gin and tonic, or if you’re doing Dry January, a non-alcoholic beer or soft drink, you can take up the offer from Ei Publican Partnerships.

You can pick from drinks including Coors Light, Carling, Rekorderlig Strawberry and Lime low alcohol cider, J2O, Strongbow, Bulmers, John Smiths, Amstel, Heineken 0.0, Guinness and Gordon’s gin.

Nick Light added: “Wherever you live, we could all do with something to cheer us up in the new year to avoid the January blues. The pub is the original social network, where you can catch up with friends and be a part of a local community and just because Christmas is over doesn’t mean you can’t carry on socialising. We recognise that many people are saving money in the New Year having indulged at Christmas so we’re making it easier by giving the town a free drink.”

You’ve got between 2nd and 20th January to claim your free drink and you must download a voucher to your phone from before showing it at your nearest participating watering hole.

Ei Publican Partnerships, the UK’s largest leased and tenanted pub business, is giving away up to 45,000 free drinks nationally in approximately 1,000 pubs across the UK.
