Turkish food is all about fresh, authentic, tasty food, especially when it’s from Tuck In Restaurant and Shisha Bar on Wellingborough Road, Northampton. Gone are the days where it’s greasy and a hangover cure, it’s now become a wonderful experience to be enjoyed at any time of the year for any occasion.
Tuck In is situated in the centre of Wellingborough Road and provides a wonderful high end restaurant. This was originally Tuck In Cafe and has recently transformed into a luxury restaurant with cocktail bar.
This restaurant is open breakfast, lunch and dinner and stays open until 2am on the weekends.
The restaurant has been renovated with an attention to detail style. It has elements of Turkish and English style which accommodates parties, couples and families. As soon as you enter the restaurant the staff are accommodating and polite.
The Main Event
We started the meal with a bread and olive tapenade which was a lovely snack to graze on whilst reading the menu. The options are vast with something for everyone. There are the usual kebab/shish style options but also an a la carte option for more meat based meals.
For starters we went for the Calamari rings with creamy sauce which was tasty and well cooked. Despite being deep-fried it wasn’t greasy or oily which made for a lovely starter to get into the Turkish mood.
We also had a plate of the falafel which was deep fried broad beans and chick peas. This went down a treat and was on a bed of humous. A great amount of food for a starter without feeling seriously full.
The staff were attentive whilst we waited for our food but there was never a huge wait between meals. Of course, on a busier evening it could be different but generally the staff were present and attentive to all diners.
The main meals consisted of a tuvak sis and kudzu sis, (chicken and lamb kebabs). These were a sight to behold, the food looked once again colourful, well presented but also plenty of it. The meat was well cooked through and was placed on the Turkish bread. This also came with a nicely marinaded salad and rice.
The food was so tasty here. We quickly became full as there was just so much to eat which is never a complaint. The salad kept the meat flavoursome and varied on each mouthful.
The seasoning of the meat was perfect for all tastes as they weren’t too spicy which is often something that can put people off kebabs. If you wanted chilli sauce I’m sure you could have asked for it but this was just right.
After finishing our meal, which left us plenty full and happy, the owner spoke to us about the journey of the restaurant. He spent many months making the renovation and expansion a viable option. His roots and connections are Turkish so he knows how to provide an authentic experience but in the English culinary scene of Northampton.
You couldn’t fault the efforts of the staff, the atmosphere was perfect for a weekday meal and from what we have seen, busy on a Saturday night. We recommend booking a meal from Friday’s through to the weekend as it’s a busy place but it’s very much worth it.
There is a Shisha Bar available here but it isn’t something that is heavily used on a week day which allows for preference of the atmosphere you prefer.
Their cocktail and mocktail menu is extensive and provides something for everyone’s taste buds. To check out more about the restaurant and the menu visit their website here. It’s definitely something different and brings a bit of glam to the taste of a kebab!
